Spotlight on sustainable development and energy management at Ecobuild 2010
HEALTHCARE estates and facilities managers and representatives from the construction industry are expected to flock to this year's Ecobuild annual exhibition as they look for novel ways of reducing the sector's carbon footprint.
Ecobuild 2010 runs from 2-4 March at Earls Court in London and will this year focus on Innovation in Sustainable Education, with more than 850 exhibitors and thousands of delegates expected through the doors.
Running alongside the exhibition will be a conference programme with more than 100 topical talks and events planned. They include debating the progress made in putting sustainability at the core of construction and the built environment and exploring the future direction the sector needs to take. A spokesman for the organiser said: "Coming between the Copenhagen summit and a likely spring general election in the UK, the conference provides a timely opportunity to examine the progress being made and what needs to happen. "The UK's built environment will only become a low-carbon one if there is political vision and ideas, plus the commitment to make change happen. To test out where that vision and commitment are likely to come from, there will be a number of opportunities to hear from relevant government ministers and members of the main opposition parties, as well as senior figures from the sector." Conference speakers include Tony Arnel from the World Green Building Council; Greg Barker MP, shadow minister for climate change; Christian Donath of the German Sustainable Building Council; and Professor Paul Ekins, professor of energy and environment policy and University College London's Energy Institute. Topics will include the consequences of the Copenhagen conference, refurbishment schemes, joining up infrastructure and the challenges facing the construction industry. Ecobuild 2010 |
